Our director Toby Tilsley is an Air Tightness Testing and Measuring Association (ATTMA) registered air tightness tester. He is certified to test buildings up to 4000m3 gross envelope volume.
Air tightness testing, also known as blower door testing, is a procedure that measures a building's airtightness by using a fan to create a pressure difference, revealing air leaks and helping to improve energy efficiency and indoor air quality.
All exterior openings (windows, doors, etc.) are sealed except for the blower door and fan. The fan is turned on, and the pressure difference is measured. Airflow through the fan is measured, and the results are used to calculate the building's air leakage rate (often expressed as air changes per hour at 50 Pascals, or ACH50).
