Even if you missed out this time around, we would highly recommend this book as a great overview of sustainable building and living in New Zealand with lots of practical tips and tricks.

We are at the end of a very exciting year for Craft Homes. We started the year with an environmental passive solar home in beautiful Ruakaka designed by Duncan Firth from Solarei (check out this project in the video above).

We are currently nearing the end of another passive solar home in Huia, West Auckland (more great views!) for the same designer. We post regular updates about this project on our Facebook page. 

We have also just completed an extensive Remuera renovation, complete with high performance insulation and a specialised ventilation system throughout to turn a cold, damp villa in to a healthy, and more energy efficient family home (it can be done!).

We look forward to sending you more updates in the new year of the exciting projects, and new and innovative products we are using. This includes a SIPS panel home and construction of a home using Izodom, which is steel reinforced, concrete filled formwork for walls and midfloors.

We are feeling very inspired after attending the recent Superhome Movement workshop, the first of its kind in Auckland.  The big question asked at this event was “Why?”.

Becoming a family man, after the birth of my son Lachie, has cemented for me the importance of creating sustainable, healthy and functional family homes that are not only significantly cheaper to run, but are a healthier environment to live in.  

Myself, and my wife Cat have lived in a very poorly built home in Auckland and, since moving, it has become clear that the condition of the home had a direct adverse effect on our health.  Unfortunately, this is the case for many New Zealanders, resulting in very real health concerns, including the highest rate of childhood asthma in the world!!

​Through Craft Homes’ affiliation with The New Zealand Green Building Council, the Homestar® rating system and the Superhome Movement, we are proud to offer our clients the opportunity to enjoy a more sustainable home and to contribute to New Zealand’s sustainable building movement.

The Superhome Movement is a not-for-profit, industry-led organisation, which supports change in the New Zealand Building industry. As professionals involved in this movement, we believe that we need better building standards to support the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders, now and in the future.
