NEW BUILD HOMES
This impressive 3 storey home achieved Passive House Plus Certification mid-2024. Originally meant to be a high-performance home, the design was upgraded to meet Passive House standards. The house has been designed to be healthy, quiet, energy efficient, and self-sufficient. Although grid tied and connected to town water, the house has a generous PV solar array, house battery, and rainwater tanks. The basement structure is insulated concrete form, and the upper floors are 140mm timber framing with a 45mm services cavity, providing two layers of insulation, and minimising thermal bridging.
This high-performance, eco home achieved a Regional Silver Award in the 2022 Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards. We also used the Homestar rating system and are on track to achieve a Homestar 8. The performance of this home was modelled prior to construction, is built using Formance SIPs panels, Pro Clima smart membranes and German made high-performance windows, meaning a super airtight thermal envelope, insulation values well above code and superior energy efficiency compared with a standard home built to code.
This high-performance home in Red Beach, Auckland, achieved an impressive 9 Homestar built rating. This means that NZ best practice design and build principles were used, including thermal modelling prior to construction, positioning the home to capture maximum sunlight, high levels of insulation throughout, passive house standards of air tightness, a mechanical ventilation system, German uPVC/aluminium thermally broken joinery and grid-tied solar panels.
This passive solar home is positioned to capture maximum sunlight, warmth and air flow throughout the day, whilst taking in as much of its amazing view as possible. It also packs a punch in terms of innovation, with external cladding of sustainable composite timber, exposed internal solid block walls for thermal mass, grid-tied solar panels, rain water harvesting and a passive septic system.

“Right from the start of our project, Toby was focused, knowledgeable, and inspired confidence. Our project was quite complex architecturally, and demanding on the building team. The Craft Homes team never missed a beat, even on the rare occasions when revisions to align with the plan were needed. The team are hardworking professionals, committed to the project and the timetable, and justifiably proud of the quality of their work. I would recommend Craft homes unhesitatingly.”

We also completed an extensive re-fit of the kitchen and bathrooms and improved the flow within the home.

“Not only is Toby a great builder but he's just a good guy. When you're basically living through the renovation this was important for my family and I.
