We wanted to introduce one of our current sustainable build projects in a little place called Huia on the Manukau Harbour. Hear from Toby and the architect who designed this home Duncan Firth from Solarei. When finished, the house will run the full length of the picture shown. Like with all good design orientation plays a really big part, with the home positioned to capture the most sunlight, warmth and air flow throughout the day, as well as the amazing view! Another important design feature are the solid block walls within the house, designed to provide thermal mass to capture the natural heat from the sun during the day and release it slowly at night, therefore providing another heat source for the property. The property will also have solar panels from Ecosmart, with a ground array of 21 panels producing 5.7 kilowatts of power, an in-ground water tank that captures water and pumps it back to the house, as well as a passive septic system from Naturalflow. Stay tuned for updates on this project as we move forward.
